Art Quilt Quilt-a-Long

After making an Art Quilt some time ago, I decided that the applique and sewing things onto the quilt were just not my thing, but I still like the idea of making a 'painting' of sorts with quilting.

I've designed a new pattern that will have the Art Quilt in mind and also keep to the Paper Piecing that I love so dearly. This piece will be 52" x 38" (130 x 95cm). Once pieced together it can get some Free Motion Quilting onto it to make it more interesting.

This is "Girl in the Wind".

I'm thinking of making this into an "Installment Pattern".

Each week I'll make one of the sections available for a small fee ($1.00 per section) and we can sew along together until we have our Art Quilt done. We should be finished in 12 weeks.

Let me know if you're interested. We will start by 1 March 2014. More info on the Art Quilt Page.
Thanks

  1. That is very intriguing, I wish I had the time I would so join in with you.

  2. Janeen, this is simply gorgeous. I would definitely contemplate doing this. I like the weekly for 12 week idea. I would want time to figure out a color scheme. Browns are low in my stash but as an art quilt the color options are unlimited.

  4. Wow I would love to do something like this. How much time do you estimate each block takes?

  5. This is really beautiful. Although I'm not very good at keeping up with QAL type stuff (still haven't completed a garden block yet . . .). But I would love to purchase the whole package of sections if that's an option.

  6. Your pattern is amazing! I love art quilts too, but designing them takes the wind out of me. I like to combine all sorts of techniques...whatever works best for my purposes and gets the job done easier.

  10. oh how I would love this... I would be super intimidated at the intricacy of the PP but would love to try anyway and I think 1$ a week is more than generous

  12. Gorgeous...I have a daughter who looks like that but blonder! Count me in, I'm wondering if we could have the option to pre-pay all 12 weeks to make it easier to do the accounting?
