What y'all doing?

Today I wanted to quickly finish what I started yesterday and show you all what I made with the Hexagons that I cut out.

 This is a Hexi mug-rug.

and this is a photo line up of how it got there....

I cut out 6 strips of fabrics:
2" x 5"
The first piece is attached at top.

here you can see that the first piece has a partial seam and is only sewn between the pins and not all the way across.

The first piece is opened and then you cut off the excess in line with the side of the hexi. Leave the other side for now.

Going in a clockwise direction, add the next piece, open, cut off excess along the hexi line and then along the line of first added piece.

Third piece's turn. Same as before.
Here you can see my best piece of technology - a sticky note bundle. It sits along the 1/4" line and I line up my fabric against it as a guide on my seams.

Trim again against the hexi line and the outside added piece line.

This is the 5th piece to be added. Hold the first piece added out of the way, add piece, open and trim as all the rest.

Now back to the 1st piece. Bend it out over the 5th added piece and then continue the seam that was started in the beginning.
Trim the sides.

Here is the result = a cute hexi with braided edges.

Sides are still 1/2 measurement of the diameter and angles are still all 60 deg.
(I know because I measured them ...)

Thing 1 and Thing 2 really work!!

I cut another hexi and a batting to size and then seamed all around 5 of the edges, turned it out  and then seamed it up and went around the edges.

It didn't need to look fancy - this was my prototype.....

Great for an interesting looking mug-rug.

Now this is fun and different. I really like the playful colors. Thanks for sharing the tutorial. I like seeing Asian prints. Happy Quilting.

this is a really neat tutorial! and what a great idea to use the sticky note tabs as an extended guide for your seams. I might have to give that one a try!

Thanks so much for sharing at Needle and Thread Thursday!

This is darling. I have a print similar to your center one. Now I am excited to go play with it.
