Taking it easy...

I decided not to do any sewing today or this week-end - just to give my back a chance at calming down.

I was looking through my cupboards and I found this:  The very first quilt I ever made!! I was so glad to see it again... it was like getting a visit from an old friend.

I think it was 1995 when I went to the library and found a book on antique quilts. It was soooo beautiful and I also wanted to learn how to make a quilt. I found the templates and cut out the fabrics - from felt (seemed like a good idea at the time)  and hand stitched them and hand quilted it too.

(Believe me - that was the first and last hand anything! My nails and hands were shot after that)

Unfortunately I can't remember what the pattern was called and I could never find the book again - I think something with a Rose...

Each block is 20" (50cm)

The mini-quilt is 1,15cm (46")

This is a closeup of the hand quilted flowers I made - what did I know then?

I remember it took half of forever to do this, then I discovered machine quilting and piecing.

I don't think I have looked back since.

Sometimes nice to look back at something done a long time ago and see how far you have come.

Have a good week-end

Amazing hand quilting for a first attempt. I think we can say your tastes have moved on since then, can't we, or do you still like making Baltimore style quilts?

Isn't it funny to look back at our beginnings and see how far we've come? I'm still a newbie quilter, so I'm sure in 10 years I'll be looking back at the projects I'm doing today and smile. Visiting (and new subscriber) from Finish It Up Friday!

Very pretty, I admire anyone who does hand work, I just can't make myself do it. :)
