January 2015 Bom Oceans

Hello All!
Happy New Year !

Welcome to the start of 2015 Block of the Month
"Oceans"

This is a BoM for Intermediate level paper piecing fanatics.
Our Beginners BoM starts on Monday 5 Jan 2015 - "Geometrics"

So....... let's get to it!!

Our January block is -
A Green Turtle - 14.5" (36.5 cm)

I made each of my segments first before I joined them together.

I used bits of scrap fabrics from my huge pile of scraps. The green batik came in really handy for the flippers.

The beach sand is supposed to look like wet and dry sand here in the front.
Wasn't too sure....

The water turned out fine for waves right behind the turtle.

The shell needed something with blocks or patterns, so this with dots and the batik seemed to do the trick...

The face of the turtle is pretty cute, so I couldn't wait to put this all together.

I used a lighter green on the face than the legs.
The neck of the turtle is very "leathery" looking in a dark colour, so I tried to find scraps of browns to add to those pieces.

Top and bottom done!
remember to match up the flipper and the shell.

This is my cute Turtle block. His little face just makes me want to give it  a kiss.

I hope you also enjoy putting your block together.

Block will be FREE for January in my Craftsy Shop.

This turtle is really cute! I love the perspective of him, crawling up from the water. Your batiks are perfect for the turtle!
I can't wait to get him made!

Thank you for this block! I sewed it up yesterday and love how it turned out. This is the most intricate paper pieced block I've made, but you directions were really clear. Can't wait for next month. :-)

There is a picture of my finished block here: http://yellowbirdstitches.blog.com/2015/01/07/ocean-bom/
