Lighthouse Art Quilt

Hello and Welcome

Today is the start of our Lighthouse Art Quilt
By the end of May we will be finished and you will have an amazing pieced art work to turn into a quilt, a wall hanging, anything you like...

For the next 8 weeks we will follow this plan and get our sewing mojo humming smoothly...
Pieces 7 & 8 are strategic and not some cruel and unusual punishment....
If you have a gaping hole in your artwork - you will want to finish it.... and the most energy is spent on the first few weeks, so by the time you start to feel tired around week 6 - a sudden burst of finishing it all will pop up - believe me, it works...

I had to do a fabric run to find a few solids, but I was so sorely dissapointed at what I could find. The fabric is so thin and then the 'not really what I was after' feeling was setting in....
These are what I finally settled on - the photo isnt great, because the purple is showing some kind of crazy blue....

The peachy oranges for the rocks was changed to more browns that I could find. We shall see how it all goes....

After cutting all my pieces out and then sticking them all together, I laid them out onto the desk. I like to do this because then I get a visual of what Im going to be doing next and sometimes I write notes onto the pieces if I need to remember something. This time I added the colour codes onto the pattern pieces so we'll see how that goes too.

These large pieces are going to need PINS...
No getting away from it. Use them to hold the fabric in place and also the keep them from moving around.

Another thing
The paper is not the important thing here...
If you need to fold it and bend it and even squash it out of the way so that you can sew another seam, then do it. Just dont rip it so bad that you cant see the lines or where to add the next piece.
after all.... it eventually comes out and ends up in the bin.

Once I sewed all the sections, I started joining them together which went surprisingly well. Those long straight lines were really a breeze.

This is my first week piece all finished up.
Ive used 2 different greys in the clouds because.... i can....

You are welcome to change yours just as you like.

I hope you enjoy this QAL and that you find a love for paper piecing that will take your sewing to new and interesting places.
If you would still love to join us - GREAT! you're more than welcome

What a beautiful start to your Lighthouse, Janeen. You picked out beautiful colors, despite the shortage of fabric options!
