Art with Fabric Day #3

Hello and Welcome to Day #3 of the Art with Fabric blog hop....
Hosted by Alida from Tweety Loves Quilting. Thanks so much for all your hard work!

Our theme for this Art Hop was "Earth" and we needed to make something in fabric that would show this theme. We took our inspiration from other artists.

When I thought of what did 'Earth' mean to me I first thought of my Father God who I love and believe that " the earth is His and the fullness thereof..." and how He brought balance and creativity to all things. I love spirals in nature, so I also wanted something with that in it too.

I started thinking of making the symbol for the "Golden Ratio" or the Fibonacci Sequence which is evident in nature and their spirals....

I found an artist Sarah Grubb who had painted this amazing piece called the Golden Ratio and decided I also wanted to make one....

I also decided that I wanted it round like the Earth and it will be a symbol of balance and creativity.
I also found an image where the Golden Ratio was worked out in a circle....yaaay!
Only thing left was to convert it into a paper piecing pattern.

This is my pattern of the "Golden Ratio"

I liked the idea of making each piece with a different fabric but still keeping it in the same colour group.

I sewed the free motion quilting lines with a gold thread and I wanted to keep it really simple, so there is only an outline in each of the quarters following the spiral. The background fabric I chose reminds me of the stars and other galaxies.

The fabric I used for the back has Cats all over it - because this one is a mini quilt for my assistant!!

If you would like a copy of the Golden Ratio pattern (really easy level) you can download it for FREE right here.....

I hope you will enjoy sewing it up....
