Postcards

Have a look at these!

I've been busy making little minatures .....

This is a postcard of a mini-quilt. It measures 5 x 6,5" big. Not too complicated to start off with. I even made the postcard a 'back' - so that no-one will be confused as to what it is ..........
although I don't think I can post it from here just like that - (needs to go to San Diego). It'll get "lost" within a half an hour at the post office. I'll probably have to put it into another envalope.

After I made this card, I decided that I should probably have made something with paper piecing and I made a second one.  I decided on the 'mountain lake reflection' pattern I already have, but just decreased the size to 4.5" x 6". I also made this one a back but now I'm stumped as what to write on it.
This was all part of a postcard swap that I'm participating in called "The Great Big Stitched Postcard Swap" over at Do what you Love.

The theme was "create" so I created a mini sized painting - done the way I Love!!

After I made the paper pieced picture, I ironed some interfacing onto the back of it to make it a little more rigid.

I measured the back a little bigger, drew on my words and lines and then also ironed onto the back a little interfacing. I sewed over the words and lines - really slowly...

I sewed a few lines onto the picture before I put the back onto it otherwise the card part would look really wierd.
I didn't add batting to the centre because it felt too fat, so the double layer of interfacing was the only thing inside.
It's pretty rigid just like this without feeling too stiff.

Here's the finished postcard ready to be posted.

Have a good Wednesday!

It's so tiny! I just love the way you've quilted it. It gives the water a lovely sense of movement.

Gorgeous piecing. It will be a lucky friend who receives that.

Great job on both of these lovely postcards, Janeen! I made two of these and thought the same thing... I would not trust them to go through the post "as is", but it would be fun to try it!!!

I've not lost a postcard through the mail system, yet. I always hope they put a smile on the mailman's face. Yours are lovely.

Take the card down to your local post office and ask them how to send it. I have read in other blogs that you can get plastic envelopes to put them in to mail. That way they can be seen. They are beautiful.

I've done several fabric/quilted postcard swaps. I have sent some "naked", some in paper envelopes and some in glassine sleeves...whatever seems appropriate to preserve the embelllishments on the card. All arrived intact!

I like the pattern, it reminds me of the red rocks and the Colorado River at the Grand Canyon. Beautiful. Anyone would love to receive this in the mail!
