Week 12 Art Quilt QAL Finish

Well, its finally here! Today has arrived! Yippeeee and thank heavens...

Our last piece of the Art Quilt QAL has made its grand entrance... The face......

The pieces we made in week 4 are part of this block, so thank heavens some of the block is already finished.

I always lay out my pieces onto my desk so that I can get a good idea of where to begin and which piece fits together before another.

That is when I noticed that the 'Eye' piece "Q" was going to be totally impossible with the colour codes on it. You can't even see where the lines are.

This is the eye piece - - - - - >
Not good!

So what I done was go back to the original pattern without the colour codes on it and print out another eye piece.

I have included both eye pieces in the pattern so that you can see where to colour your plain piece.

I used colour pencils to colour in the segments and then I wrote the colour code onto the piece where it would not be in my way.

NOTE: you only need one, so don't kill yourself and make 2...

Pieces all sewn up and ready to be put together.

I realise the eye piece has small bits, but look at the great result....

This is the face block completed!  She really is beautiful...

Once you have the face done, you can sew the second column together and then the first and second columns together to get 2 halves of your quilt top.

Then all that is left is sewing the 2 halves together, being careful with trying your best to match up points. Then the real fun begins - taking off all the paper.
I don't even mind it really......

I pinned my quilt top onto the batting already (because I'm a week ahead of everyone else) and started with the sewing lines into her hair.

This is taking a lot longer than I thought it would. All the pushing and pulling has helped me nothing with my back ache... so I only get to do a little each day.

I went a little camera happy, so here are a few other photos I've taken of the almost finished quilt top.

To give everyone enough time to finish up, I think we will have a link up on
the last Friday - 30 May 2014. You don't have to have everything done, just finished the 12 blocks.

The pattern is now put together into an E-Book with all instructions and pattern pieces divided up into 'weeks' so that making this Art Quilt will be a breeze.
The E-Book is available in my Craftsy and Etsy Shops.

Please feel free to post your photos onto our Flickr group Page - I love looking at all of them!

Have a wonderful week-end!

Janeen, Thank You so much for this quit along, I have really enjoyed it! Living in southern california san diego with all the fires and high school graduations has made me two blocks behind. My plan is to finish up in the next two weeks! Cant wait to post pictures! Thank you again! Debbie

Can't wait to finally get started. I only just purchased my fabric yesterday, for the hair only. Still have to show my daughter who has an eye for color to be sure I picked good shades. And now I finally have a working printer too!!

Looks terrific. Sorry to hear about your backache. I somehow ratched my right shoulder (already had issues with my left shoulder), so I can sympathize. I just think it's getting better and then it gets worse again. I think it's from lugging around my 27 lb. grandson... Hope you feel better soon.

Holy Moly! Quilting is beyond my understanding - I don't know how you do this. It sure is great to look at.
