Row by Row 2017

put together and hosted by Marian at Seams to be Sew

This year we looked into making a row of 12x30" (31x77cm) of a favourite Christmas Carol.
How do you choose..... there's so many and I love so many of them....
I finally decided on "Do you hear what I hear"

This is my interpretation of the carol......

We received 4 fat quarters from Northcott Fabrics to include in our rows and I chose the sandstone colours for the 'village' and the purple/blue colour under the star and then the green of the grass. Thank you so much Northcott Fabrics. They were kind enough to even have in couriered to my front door here in South Africa....  Thank you!!

I decided to add the starry night instead of the solid background and I think the photo doesn't really do it justice, the real thing here on my design wall is gorgeous....

Here are a few close ups of the row -
The night wind coming in to tell the Good News....The 3 wise men following the star

Here is the shepherd boy and the sheep and in the distance the stable where our Lord Jesus was born...

You can download this row for FREE in my Craftsy Shop

I realize its  a lot of work (I know - I did also sew it up)  but   the end result is so stunning and well worth the effort. I've heard so many negative comments about the amount of pieces and 'small pieces' in my patterns - but you know what..........I DON'T CARE!! the end result is always worth just going the extra mile....

Did you know!!!

The same "star" that showed the wise men where the King was born, was the planet Jupiter in the Virgo constellation which is right now in 2017 in the same place again.....
Coincidence - I think not!  This is not astrology - this was shown by NASA.

Now for the giveaways!!
Make sure to add your name and email address to the widget. ALSO - each of the other blogs also have rows to show and giveaways to dish out.... be sure to also visit them too.
The rules for the giveaways are on the Seams to be Sew blog.

I am quite surprised to read about negative comments. Don't people realize that by having the smaller piece the more detail your creating. I appreciate every effort you make in the creation of your patterns Janeen, and I am always in love with everything you do, but this pattern, in particular, is truly a favorite... You've created a wonderful pattern and I am blessed to be able to call you a friend and look forward to all your creations.

Hi Janeen I think your pattern is Wonderfull! You've captured the real Wonder that happend that special night. I think these tiny little pieces just make the pattern stunning. I teach classes how to do this tiny work and always start with the bigger pieces. At the end they all can do the tiny pieces. After this workshop, people always tell me they finally know the secret of working with the right tools and trics. So keep on designing the way you do, I love your designs. THANKS Heleen
I didn't know the star is still in the same place. That's a sign of a long lasting and important Gift to the world!

Another beautiful pattern, I don't know how you create so many varied designs

Susan said...

This is a stunning row and I like your interpretation of the carol. If people don't like the tiny pieces, they don't have to make your patterns. You tell people what level of pattern it is and why, so they know ahead of time. I am at a beginning level, but I like the detail the small pieces bring to your patterns. The subjects do not look like blobs. Keep on doing what you have always done. And thank you for the wonderful pattern.

Your patterns are not for everyone. Your patterns fill a niche that few other designers do. I'm glad you have decided to stay with your design style. Just remember, you can't please everyone.

I love the detail you put into all of your paterns Janeen - keep designing for yourself! (not everyone is a beginner paper piecer!) One of your birdhouse designs was my earliest pp projects, and my friend uses that simple bag everyday as a purse :)
