Friday Surprise

Hello dear Friends!!
It's Friday, so at least there is that...

I'm not sure where to even start. Sorry, its a long post, but this is what is going down...

Yesterday I received an email from Craftsy and I was let know that my 2 smaller shops (the Sew Cute Designs - applique patterns and the Paper Piecing Magazine shop) were to be chopped!! Closed by this time next Friday.
That was a good hard slap in my face.

The larger shop (QADesigns - paper piecing) will remain open BUT they will reduce the amount of patterns for me. Also, I can't add any new patterns to the shop indefinitely......
That was a good hard kick in the stomach.

If you have any patterns that you've bought but never downloaded them, PLEASE go and download it to your computer or keep it as a 'hard copy' because they're deleting all that as well.

If you also wanted any of the older patterns from my shop, you may have to think of buying them now and downloading them. Alternatively, you will have to make a note of everything you did want and it's price, and then email me about getting it straight from me in the future.

I guess I'll have to get my own website now. Other platforms like Etsy etc become too expensive eventually. Only thing is that I don't really have time to figure out how it all works, but I also don't have the cash to pay someone to help me.  Besides, its Christmas and then New Year, so I won't have time until next year.
Thanks Craftsy, Great timing! Should I be saying F U or Thank you...???

I heard and read comments on all social media about this fiasco and so many are saying that they won't support Craftsy anymore. I get it BUT I still have MY shop there and I rely on that income every week, so if people are going to boycott then I have no more business and I have no idea what I will do if that is the outcome...

PLEASE, please don't stop supporting the few designers who didn't get machine gunned down by Craftsy. Im sure they and I all need you - the sewing army of the world to stand behind them.

The new magazine for January and the BOM will still go on and I will add them to my Google Drive and let you download them straight from there.
I will just have to figure something out real quick on how to get them to a new shop.

My BLOG and GDrive will become my new headquarters for a while. Please be sure to visit often to see what's going on.

Thank you for all your support and help over the last 5 years. I love you all!!

Janeen therw are allover instructions on how to move the shop on other platforms. I think Craftsy is not going well and hopefully they do not close down lessons as well

This is bad news.

I've just bought you some coffees - thank you for the gingerbread man to have with them!

I am truly sorry about this with Craftsy. You always keep your pattern prices reasonable, especially for the quality of your designs.

Ja das finde ich auch traurig .Drück dich ganz fest und lass dich nicht unterkriegen .Ich weiss du schaffst das lg msrita

I truly agree with what Robin has commented.

I started reading about this Craftsy thing yesterday and it sounds like a huge mess. They claim that patterns we've bought will still be available in our accounts, but I guess that's just until they change their mind. I agree with other comments that your patterns are wonderful and your prices reasonable, I just hate that now it may be harder for us to find and purchase them and for you to make them available and make money from them. The uncertainty of it is frustrating too -- maybe your patterns will still be there, or maybe Craftsy will remove some of them from the shop. That's obnoxious. And at the holidays with short notice, perfect.

Nooo...I just discovered your patterns and planned for 2019 to be the year of paper piecing! Definitely going shopping today . I hope you can find another venue quickly.

What awful news! I feel so sorry for all the designers affected by this. And what a shitty time of year to do it too! Thank you for all your wonderful patterns! I will follow wherever you decide to go!

Oh my !!! Prayers for sure. Yah, not good timing for all of you involved. Make sure to have a special Christmas in spite of all this.

Just look at it as one door closing and another one opening. I know that the timing sucks, but things will get better. Everything will work out for the good. It may not be easy but stay positive. I wish you and yours a very Merry Christmas!!

I am so sorry to hear about your experience with Craftsy. Another blogger I follow mentioned going through the very same thing. It is difficult enough when businesses change, but it is terrible that you received so little notice. I hope you will be able to find a new venue soon. In the meantime, thank you for the gingerbread pattern and best wishes for a wonderful holiday. You have been so generous to your readers and I hope good things come to you in the new year.

It's a shock isn't it. I've never been so pleased that I had made a website and Facebook group in 2014 and started self publishing my patterns in 2018 I also have an Etsy store for my quilting ruler distribution. I hope you find a platform that suits you. I built my website using Yola I find it user friendly.

So sorry to hear of your troubles. Nothing can mess you up quite like the computer. Hope you can get your stuff back and organized. Good Luck.

Because of the shabby way Craftsy has done this, it makes me not want to shop there anymore. I'd rather buy directly from you so Craftsy doesn't get anything. I'll probably be one of those making a list and buying directly from you when you work out a plan to do that. I don't know how FB works but is it possible to develop the FB group into a shop and sell there?

Please consider using square space for your new store. They do it all... web hosting, ecommerce, email, invoicing and so on.

I am very sad about this. Hope they don't get rid of the classes also. I have paid for some that I haven't yet watched.

I am so sorry that Craftsy is causing this problem with your patters and business. I hope they will carry all of your FPP designs in the QADesigns shop . Merry Christmas to you , Susie

So sorry to read your are going to be affected by Crafty changes as well. Thank you for the cute Gingerbread man pattern

I’m so upset that Craftsy is doing this. I’m also mad that they’re doing it SO quickly, and at the worst possible time of the year. I think they need to be transparent, and tell shop owners and consumers WHY they are doing this!! What is the benefit to them as a company?? Anyway, I will absolutely still follow your blog.

I am shocked that Craftsy would give you so little notice and make this change at this time of year. Not a good business practice. I just read about this on another blog, so I went to Craftsy and downloaded all the patterns I had saved there as well as going through to see if there were other patterns I wanted before they disappeared. They will probably end up with a class-action lawsuit if they remove the classes people have paid for, with the promise from Crafsy that they would be available forever! Why didn't Craftsy notify those of us who just have accounts to purchase things through them? I quite agree with your first sentiment towards them! I believe there will be something better for you (and all those like you getting the shaft from Craftsy)...I just pray you figure it out quickly so it doesn't negatively impact your income. I do feel sorry for all the designers who have patterns and classes on Craftsy because buyers are going to be angry with Craftsy and try to find other ways to buy the patterns and classes they want. I'll follow you wherever you go!

Thank you for the Ginger Bread Man pattern. Craftsy hasn't been the same since their last site update, and then they sold out to another company, and now this. Makes one wonder what the criteria was for who got axed.

Melody said...

Thank you for the gingerbread man and I how you have a merry Christmas! When I got my email you were actually the first person I thought of. I had hoped that you would be spared - you have loads of wonderful patterns. Hopefully you'll quickly find something that'll work for you. Good luck!

I’m upset for you. 😧

It’s just so rude and bad timing and less than 10 days notice

Hello Janeen!
Such a bad news! Maybe you can try to have a look at the concept from WIX from Google. I think they offer possibilities to set up a store. I did not test for the store but I git a very nice web site and blog for free quite easily. Being more independant is maybe an option? But for sure it will require some time and investment on your side!!!
What a pitty...

Thank you so much for your patterns which are wonderfull!

The timing could not be worse for us, but even more so, for you - the designers. I have always enjoyed your designs and hope there is a new venue for you out there. Merry Christmas.

Kathleen said...

Bah humbug Craftsy!! And I agree with Farm Quilter. Why hasn't Craftsy notified those of us who have purchased classes and often purchase the patterns offered by individuals and have a full library of them? Are they just going to say "oops, that's no longer available, even though you paid for it" ?
So sorry this has happened to you and all the others. Craftsy is on the naughty list!

bonsoir

je suis bien désolée pour vous
j'espère que vous pourrez ouvrir une boutique toute seule, mais surtout il faudra nous dire ou la trouver quand se sera fait

bon courage, et merci pour tout vos superbes modèles

Well to be blunt... This craftsy business just sucks. I have classes I purchased, that I have not watched all of. I had planned on binge watching during spring vacation, I guess that money is down the drain 😕. And it's got to feel worse for sellers like you. I am sorry.. Bad timing for sure.

Oh what a mess... I had 3 patterns on my wish list and my daughter wants to buy them for me today (as I have no paypal) - but all are gone. F U Craftsy!!! She was away and we could not react directly after this post.... Janeen, thanks for all your work and I hope you will find a solution next year. I will follow you!

Janeen, I am so sorry!! Your patterns are so fantastic and I will try to support you wherever you are!! I am completely disappointed in Craftsy- but you make a valid point, also. I only hope that as one door starts to close-- a bigger, better door is in your design future. Have you ever written a book? No matter what, I am a fan for life and will continue to look for and purchase your patterns as I can.

Gale said...

Your patterns are wonderful and challenging. Don’t worry. Just let all of us know where/how you are setting up shop and we will follow you there. Try to see this as a terrific opportunity! Good luck!

Claire Connell said...

So very sorry that craftsy are treating you and the other sellers like this. It really, really sucks and is really bad business on their part. They have cut thousands of patterns. We need a version of Revelry for quilters.
